Mappa del territorio di Pomerio a Gorizia
Scroll down

The name pomerium has its roots in the Latin word for the sacred and inviolable space that, in ancient Rome, ran along the walls of the city. Centuries later, under Maria Theresa of Austria, that boundary took on a new meaning, becoming the physical line guiding the county's agricultural organization. Even today, some boundary stones, engraved with the words Pomerio di Gorizia, encircle the city and the vineyard like silent sentinels: enduring traces of a memory that is still alive.

Sorsi di confine

Ritratto di Massimo Santinelli

Rooted in the land, this is a story that reveals the depth, richness and hidden beauty of our territory. A centuries-old story that accompanies us to the present day, so that the past can become a living heritage, capable of illuminating the future with renewed hope.
I chose to tell the story of the border not as a line that divides, but as a place of encounters, flavors and bonds, where distances dissolve and connections flourish. The wines I make follow this same principle: they are the fruit of passion, expertise and tradition, held within bottles that contain their entire world.
This is who I am. This is Pomerio.

Massimo Santinelli

A continuous dialogue between deep roots and contemporary sensibility

In the heart of Friuli Venezia Giulia, between the Isonzo river and the border with Slovenia, Pomerio was born — a winery that tells the story of the territory's identity through authentic, sustainable wines. Each label is the expression of a unique terroir, shaped by an unrepeatable microclimate and a viticulture that respects nature.
The estate's privileged location, in the territory of Gorizia, benefits from the meeting of the bora wind and the breezes coming from the Adriatic Sea. The proximity to the Isonzo favors thermal excursions and cool evenings that support a slow ripening of the grapes, helping to develop complex aromas, freshness and balance.

The same landscape is also home to the renowned Rosa di Gorizia, an agricultural excellence and symbol of local tradition, testifying to the deep connection between biodiversity, culture and quality. Pomerio interprets this heritage with a contemporary outlook, enhancing the roots of the territory through a sustainable winemaking production oriented toward excellence.

In the north-east of Italy, embraced by the Isonzo river and the border with Slovenia, Pomerio was born. A portrait of territory, memory and character that takes shape in authentic wines, the expression of an unrepeatable microclimate and a viticulture that respects nature.

A place that tells the story of time, a wine that celebrates it

The history of the territory also lives on in a Second World War bunker that today houses the Pomerio wines. A striking setting that hosts guided tastings, where the wines engage in dialogue with a selection of local specialties.
